Come to me, and I will give you rest

I work in a Petri dish school that has a healthy dose of viruses in it at any given time. And yes, my students know how to do lovely things like cover mouths when coughing and sneeze into elbows, but…they don’t always DO it.

Enough foreshadowing. I was sick with the cold that took our staff and students down like dominoes. No one was exempt. Normally I don’t get sick due to a combination of vitamins, exercise, and a flu shot…but that was no match for this behemoth. I spent two days in bed. Doing nothing. I almost self-destructed.

I hate NOT being able to do something. My friends who know me well know that I compete in almost all regards of my life. Nothing will make me do something faster than someone telling me I can’t. I wanted to run, but knew I needed to respect my body and what it was telling me…which was “NO CORINNE, YOU HAVE ASTHMA, YOU CAN’T >*{^>~}] RUN WITH A COLD.”

The downtime made me appreciate the restart of running this week. I can only run 2 miles comfortably right now, and I’m trying to maintain patience with my body as it returns to the rigor of exercise. But above all, I just remember this mantra and its inherent truth…
